Design Legend Interview

25 April 2017

Right now I am studying at Mimar Sinan Fıne Arts University from where my father is graduated from. Almost my entire family members are artists, architects or designers.

I can say that I have never seen any other job in my life.

I both coosed it and kind of forced to as any other job would hard for me.

I would rather designing things that people can wear or can put in their homes.

I am a young designer too, not a "design legend."

Good designers products sells well, great designers creates icons.

As long as products which are not make harm to anyone else and be good to the nature, good designs will always come up.

Every designs value add to the designer. A good design is a designers pride.

Luigi Colani, Raymond Loewy, Phillippe Starck, Dieter Rams, Joe Colombo, Hartmut Esslinger, Fran von Holzhausen are the first ones that comes to my mind.

Raymond Loewys pencil sharpener. I think forcing an object that much for the trend which he adopts shows a designers sagacity. But this is just an example. How can we say that this one is my favorite while there is a design history which is full of great objects.

My coffee machine is the one that I was most satisfied with which is one of the reasons why i sent it to this competition.

I guess I would be an architect or a painter.

To create a mass production artwork.

My family, especially my little sister.

I don’t think that I am a great designer yet. There are many more things that I should learn before I can call myself one.

My next project is a semisubmarine. I want to design an iconic product in the future.

I want to be lead designer in a great company.

My coffee maker is the most satisfying project for me beacuse coffee is one of my passion.

I am waiting for a cheaper 3d printer technology, ıt has an enormous potential.

It depends on the size of the project.

It always starts with blank paper. I love to sketch before asking anything to anyone or making research about it. After that, I add on to my original project the things that i found by researching and asking around.

Desining without harming anything.

Great designer defines trends, good designers follows it.

For me ıt is very useful for visualisation. Digital prints are very useful while making research.

All of them has different affects on human psychology. That is why I shape my designs to whatever I want to my project to make feel for the people I make them for.

I would want to the product to describe itself without need any questions.

Why haven’t I done this?

I believe in co-design, I always want to have engineering team by my side to help my design projects.

My project advisors are from my university.

I don’t think that I have read any book that impacted to my design directly but I read many science fiction novels which I think that is improved my imagination.

I would have liked to meet Leonardo da Vinci.

I don’t have a favorite colour but i prefer matte colours. My favorite place is Home. I love winter.

I think muscle for will lose its importance. It seems that machines will do most of the work. Only things that require creativity like desings will continue to be made by us.

Designer Interview

26 April 2017

Because almost my entire family are artist, designer or architect so it can be said that I didn’t see any other proffesion. I was interested in social sciences when I was in high school but eventually that’s the point that I came now.

I am still not working for any company. I am still educating in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.

Creating manufactured artwork with mutual effort.

I like to design small objects. I think that there is a huge difference between objects that people like to show in their living areas and objects that which they entered into. For example cars, boats, etc.

Raymond Loewys pencil sharpener. I think forcing an object that much for the trend which he adopts shows a designers sagacity. But this is just an example. How can say that this one is my favorite whilw there the design history is full of great objects.

I designed a closet when i was intern, unfortunately it was never manufactured.

I like using fabric materials in my products. It is definitely warm material to use.

When i am stressed.

İ focused on to not make harm to anyone or anything.

İ feel more curious. While i was creating a product, there can be a difference between how i designed the product in my mind at first and the product which i designed end up with.

I feel relieved.

In my opinion, a product which is safe for anyone even though it’s not selling good or doesn’t liked by someone is still successful.

If a product make harm to itself or anyone who is using it I judged that an insufficient product.

In my point of view, using minimum material sources and using these sources with minimum pollution and providing maximum benefits with minimum loss.

It is obvious that we are going to use high technology in the future however it has to be always made by human beings.

The most important criteria which is affecting me to create a product are biomimicry and iconic objects. (hourglass, telescope etc.) Besides that listening expectations of people also affecting me to realized my design.

I am trying to blend modernist style and oriantel style. I am also searching an innovator, elegant and exotic design language. Generally, ı am trying to get main shapes of my products from nature itself and iconic objects.

I live in Turkey, My countrie’s designing culture developed by old civilizations such as Hittite, Byzantium, Ottoman, etc. I can easily say that Turkey has a great design potential however It has no unique design culture yet.

I have never worked in a design company before.

It always starts with a blank paper. I like sketching without asking anything to anyone and without researching. After the researching process I am taking opinions of target customers, and then I started to add things into my first sketches.

Logitech g502 mouse ('cause of ergonomy), Casio sgw-100-1v watch, Ibanez gio guitar, Hilti nail set case, Wacom Sylus stand.

As a young designer, I haven’t seen myself in that level to give wisdom.

Brain of a designer always remains fresh however the body always rebels.

In my point of view the golden rule is “never harm to anyone or anything.”

Graphic tablet, Adobe photoshop, Rhinoceros, Keyshot, Fusion 360, Autocad and blank paper. My inspiration usually come from city itself and history. I can’t find inspiration from magazines or etc.

There is no time limitation in my working hours right now. I always time for working so it is hard to make an inference for that. However, I can easily say that working at nights is the best option for me right now.

It depends on projects. Some of them can be finished in one week, some of them can be finished in four months.

What are you going to be after you graduated from university?

I haven’t had an important work experience yet.

I haven’t had a client yet.

I like to design objects that people can wear. Also I like to design objects that people want to put it into their houses. I believe that these kind of objects makes people to internalize.

I want to be a part of a company which designs small objects.

I always worked with my own until today but I want to work with a team which including engineers, designers, advertisers, etc.
