Interview with Beata Greta Szatmari

Design Legend Interview

26 April 2017

I have studied Design Academy in Debrecen, Hungary, which I finished last year.

My love for fashion and curiosity of how materials become art.

I choose to become a designer.

I love to design peculiar evening dresses that stand out.

I think they should be persistant and believe in their dream, creativity and talent.

I evaluate design by the harmony of the different elements create between each other.

Because design is art, and I think everybody should invest in art.

Exploring different cultural elements of every country in my designs.

My Ready Folded collection, and I think the use of fabric folding makes it great.

I did a lot of research for my project and didn't give up until I could make my imagination reality.

Wearable art.

My lovely husband and family.

My strong will.

Lack of quality materials at an acceptable price.

I want to explore my cultural heritage in my next design.

To create beautiful dresses for people to enjoy.

Design helps as create new things, improve upon the old, innovate and it is a great outlet for creativity. Also I think that design is a form of art and art is important to our society.

I started designing my next collection inspired by my Hungarian heritage, but I'm full of ideas I want to explore in my next designs to come.

Depends on how complicated the design is. For example a simple evening dress takes days or a week, but my Ready Folded collection took months to finalize.

I start with drawing what I have in mind, and then I search for ways to make it become reality.

Persistance is key.

It's the most important part of my design actually. I like to achieve a sense of harmony between the color schemes in my design, and I use quality materials to bring out the most of it. I think that was makes it truly refined.

What a great idea!

I believe in co-designing, but I've yet to find the right partner.

I'm very thankful for my award, but I've yet to become truly famous.

Yes, I knew it since I was a little girl, but I waited until I was 24 to make it become a reality.

Designer Interview

26 April 2017

Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated by the way clothes were made, it was a question I kept asking myself; I wanted to learn how to turn materials into clothes, so when I turned 24 I decided to seek out the answer and learn this form of art.

I barely just started out, so I don't have a design studio yet.

Design for me means wearable art.

Mostly I like designing evening gowns that stand out and are as original as they can be.

Ready Folded-Wearable Art is my first collection, which was also my final project for the design school I studied at.

7 My favorite material is lace and I'm fascinated by how it is made.My favorite technology is of course folding fabrics, which inspired my Ready Folded collection.

I feel creative mostly when I am at ease and surrounded by postive energy.

I focus on the harmony between the different aspects of the design.

In my opinion creativity and effort make a design successful. The amount of energy you put in your work.

I judge design based on their harmony. I look at the whole design at first and then look at it's details.

I draw inspiration from different cultures around the world, so I constantly try to broad my perspective by researching traditional elements.

I live in Romania, but by heritage I'm Hungarian and of course I attended design school in Hungary. I'm lucky enough to live close to the border, so I can experience both countries. I intend to explore my cultural heritage in my future designs. I would rather not discuss pros and cons, cause sadly there would be too much cons.

I would tell them to follow their dreams and don't let anybody tell them they can't succeed. Don't doubt yourself.

Concentration and persistance.

Strong drawing skills, visualization abilities and sewing skills, and also a good eye for materials.

I try to do my designs on my free time.

That depends on how complicated the design is. A complicated design could take me months, but a simple evening dress a day or a week.

My friends and acquaintances.

I plan to open my own studio and start work on my second collection.

I develop my designs by myself. Hopefully I will have a team around me soon to help my with the process.

I have, but I would like to keep it to myself.
