Maki-e is a unique Japanese lacquer technique used for decoration which involves attaching gold, silver, and other colored powders, as well as design patterns using materials made from processed sap sourced from lacquer trees found throughout Asia.

A special coating is always needed to keep the Maki-e on the pearl. The location of the Maki-e application is especially important in the context of Maki-e Pearl Jewelry in case of remodeling or resizing, otherwise, Maki-e and its coating may become damaged and cracked.

Fad an Tionscadail: For these earrings, Maki-e was applied on the South sea pearls in Japan, and the 18K wavy hoops with Italian Florentine Finish were made in Italy in 2021. It usually takes about one month for the Maki-e application and drying process. Afterwards, the Maki-e jewelry parts are sent to Italy where it takes another month to be combined with the 18K gold parts.
