Ji Xiang Dao es un centro de ventas de uso mixto ubicado en Taipéi, Taiwán. El edificio funciona como unos grandes almacenes a pequeña escala, combinando gastronomía, comercio minorista, entretenimiento y eventos culturales. La estructura original se conservó y se le otorgaron nuevas funciones comerciales. Una fachada de malla metálica desplegada y los muros de doble capa suavizan la masa del edificio y equilibran la transparencia con la solidez. Un patio central y recorridos claros guían a los visitantes y vinculan los espacios interiores y exteriores. El edificio de dos plantas emplea una estructura de acero y cuenta con una superficie construida total de 2.670 metros cuadrados.

Propiedades Únicas: Breaking from convention, the project promotes local culture, community interaction, and eco friendly values. It integrates cultural elements with dining, entertainment, and sales functions to create a diverse visitor experience and a popular photo destination. Preserving the original site, a courtyard and clear pathways guide foot traffic naturally. Layered spaces, transparent facades, and expanded mesh connect indoor and outdoor areas, encouraging exploration and interaction in an immersive public environment.
Dimensiones y Embalaje: The project site covers an area of 3,510 square meter, with a total floor area of 2,670 square meter. The primary structural framework adopts SS steel construction, and the building consists of two floors in total.

Tecnología de Producción: Located near a busy commercial area in Taipei, the sales center was designed as a welcoming, community-oriented mixed-use space. Expanded metal mesh softens the building’s mass and sets it apart from typical department stores. A central courtyard enhances circulation and retail activity. Since opening, it has attracted locals and celebrities alike, becoming a lively hub that encourages photography, social sharing, and strong foot traffic.
Desafío de Diseño: Located near a major commercial district in Taipei, this sales center faced the challenge of low foot traffic. To address this, the design team created a people-friendly, mixed-use commercial space aimed at drawing public attention. The expanded metal mesh facade balances transparency and solidity, softening the building’s mass and contrasting with the imposing feel of typical department stores. Eye-catching exteriors and varied circulation successfully attract visitors.
Investigación: This project applied spatial design research to turn a traditional sales center into a vibrant, inclusive community hub. By integrating dining, retail, performances, and events around a central courtyard, it encouraged flow and interaction. Using human-centered methods and foot traffic studies, the team created a lively space that drew families and cultural groups. Sales hit 50 percent in a month, with high media exposure and strong public engagement.
Inspiración: The design breaks traditional single-use sales centers by fostering community interaction, linking old and new structures, and connecting surrounding pathways. The project retains the original structure, adding new commercial functions, using expanded metal and double-layer walls for a vibrant look. The layout, featuring pathways and plaza elements, successfully attracts crowds and showcases diverse space usage.

Planned primarily as a commercial space, the site is located near a well known commercial district in Taipei, Taiwan. Unlike conventional sales centers that focus only on sales offices and show units, the project is positioned as a small scale department store. Inspired by the local context, it creates diverse spaces centered on food, clothing, living, mobility, education, and leisure.
