Designer profileDesigner of the Day Interview
5 May 2020
My vision in design studies is different but in a good way. Since I was a little girl I was interested in painting and drawing. I studied art and architecture in high school. I graduated National University of Arts and Design in Bucharest, Romania. I activated in digital art, graphic design and my favorite: product design. During the years I understood that every cross road was with the purpose to grow myself into industry and to educate others too. Also, I thanks my parents for supporting me in every decision I made.
I studied creative fields since I was little. The design thinking process became part of me, probably this is one of many other reasons. Why design? Because design made me who I am today. The thinking process and the experiments learned me to focus more on the details and on people needs. My life is changed during the process because I always learn that my concepts have a cause behind the story.
Why, what, how? I think it's important to make baby-steps, to take challenges for your products and to think about the context. My priority is to have at the final, a real functional product and with the hope to match perfectly the sustainable area.
I feel free. I can be myself and this is way to important for me. I think every projects let me to create a better path for the future work. My inspiration many times comes from nature. Also from society problems, from my daily routine and from the people who I work with. For exemple, it is interesting how people react in different situations or places. Body language is very important for the empathy design process.
Art, I'm preoccupied with the sustainable category, the recycled materials but also with the innovations. I like to have a real story in every project. I would love to focus on social, environment design category.
Right now I'm working on my online store. I will focus on the business, and then I will start making new projects. I dreamed always to have my own line products design and I'm working on my dream. Probably next year I will have my very own workshop where I will put all the energy to create good and eco friendly products. I'd like to change the perspective of the world.
I know life is hard, but don't give up and work hard. The succes will follow. Failure is not a crime, is the perfection of the achievement. Everyday's learning. The discipline and nature matter.
I am a young designer, but I think I can answer that. Best advice is that you never need to give up on your dreams. Work not hard but smart. Be a good designer and change the world. So, don't be afraid of failure. When you experiment you will find the right answer.
Every day is different. A great day starts with one cup of coffee. A perfect day is finished with new ideas. Even if it's hard at the beginning of the career, I focus on people's need and try to create the unexpected products.
I use Design thinking methodology for every project. I think this is the best way for me to analize each route and find the best solutions for my concept and for my target. Not sure how to describe the style but it is a minimalist daily routine process. I do stay in trend, but I actually believe that the product can make the trend flow.
A good design is a product that serves well by meeting the functional and fundamental needs with reliability. Also, I'd like to analyse the experience of the customer. Good insight, simple vision and great functions. Less means more, that's why is so complicated to deliver something successful 100%. But you keep trying to improve it until you feel that it's enough. A really good design is dedicated to people. A really great design stands out. I evaluate a good design in terms of the 3 needs: simple, functional, aesthetic.
The final touch. No, the design can't be complete. There will be always a way to improve my design or other. Every designer probably will answer the same way. There so much energy for making a product that you never know when to stop. But I stop, because I need to follow my way. The decision depends on the product or on what you feel about it. You will know, when it's ready to go. In theory: good function, simple, aesthetic, ecofriendly and strong.
The next work, every time. I do not believe in one single best product. I believe in multiple good products. But, I am proud of my last one, Fragrance Lamp, because I think will change the idea of what you could have in your home.
My favourite designers* are great legends, like: Zahah Hadid, Le corbusier, Dieter Rams, Mies van der Rohe. I strongly believe that Zahah Hadid was and still is a great woman arhitect and designer. Karim Rashid is not afraid of colors so I find it atractive, he has a personal way. I also studied Bauhaus and probably i would love to had the chance to talk with the founders. The most iconic I must say, Charles and Ray Eames, they found each other and changed the world together.
The music is part of my daily creative process. I listen music not always but often. Not sure if my culture inspiring my object but for sure it's inspiring my way of thinking sometimes. Right now, I'm working on my future online product shop. Design is a lifestyle, it learned me to organize myself, to live simple, to hope, I find it peacefully
The challanges are making me do my best even if I have deadlines. I'm used to work alone but I don't mind to have brainstorming debates or working in teams. I like honesty, so for me this is an important detail when hiring somebody or when I'm working with somebody. My responsibilities: people's needs. Weather change the style. People's behavior can change the process. Sometimes is difficult to satisfy everybody's expectation. Sometimes we work hard until we gain the great results. Sometimes you are wondering if this is the right path for you. But at the end of the day, you are happy, because you can create something good for the planet and people and they know it. Because you are the designer.
The materials used. The unique aesthetic shapes. Safe design ideas. I'm preoccupied with the sustainable category, the recycled materials but also with the innovations. I like to have a real story in every project. I would love to focus on social, environment design category. So, for the trust in my ideas, I give back: eco friendly products and educate the industry about sustainability. I would love to own a gallery art, a space where all the young artist can expose their art for free, and to have te posibility to sell their creations. I also have an idea for social design. I love kids so maybe a smart creative hub for everybody, including the families with financiar problems. Maybe I dream about an utopian way, but I hope that I will have the chance to help others with my creations and my initiatives.
Recognition, Experience and Trust. Every design competition is important because you learn and grow after every experience. The result not matter more than the experience and the courage of participation.
Design Interview
29 April 2020 · Fragrance Lamp Lighting Object
The summary of the general idea is the creation of new materials that emanate natural perfume, natural color, or even an unfinished natural texture. Finding ecological materials with properties both in shape, color, texture, perfume. Touch it for texture, and Smell it for perfume. The fragrance of the lavender flowers make the object flow. Besides the fresh smell and the deep color, lavender is always associated with the idea of relaxation and well-being.
I wanted to achieve the fragrance. I wanted a natural and sustainable material with perfume. Focused on consumer, the object is part of the sensory design through texture and smell and has an ecological purpose.
My plan in the near future is to implement my work worldwide. Right now, I'm working on my online store. I will focus on the business, and then I will start making new experiments and projects.
The project lasted 4 months from the first sketches to production. It started in January 2019 in Bucharest and it ended in April 2019 in Bucharest. It was officialy presented at Romanian Design Week 2019 in May. After that, was exhibited at Sensoria - The Exhibition at Cluj Design Days & Timisoara Design Days, Romania, same year.
I created Fragrance Lamp because of the flower. I always loved lavender fields. The flower has so many practical uses and the perfume it's unique. Besides the fresh smell and the deep color, lavender is always associated with the idea of relaxation and well-being. From a statistic I realized that there are many consumers who love lavender for its properties, so I said, why not to create a lighting object that emanates that beautiful fragrance for their houses too.
Because I'm a young designer, I want to grow my business, and to develop other sustainable projects.
My plan is to produce myself the Fragrance Lamp on demand, and after that I will extend the production.
My plan is to produce myself the Fragrance Lamp on demand, and after that I will extend the production.
The idea is to create a boundary with nature. You can chose nature or at least you can be part of it. The connection is not limited.
I had another project before, where I created a different material but for the same category: lighting. From then I started to analyse different natural resources and integrate them into materials and shapes.
The consumers of the lavender flower, and people who love the fragrance of it. Everyone who wants a peace of nature in the living room, or wants to have a relaxful sleep. Customer can be also a person who prefer sustainable products.
The purpose and its unique property. The material created and the perfume of it.
The product name chosen is exactly the clue to its unique property.
None. I used the design thinking process and the realtime experiments.
The fragrance. The lighting object was a natural perfume of the lavender flower.
The process and experiment I did it on my own. For the final technical touch I collaborated with my technician which is also my friend and was my mentor in learning how to work with different machines
Fundament and function.
Yes. I used the design thinking process. The insight is to connect for disconnect the stress. I tried to implement the experience into experiment. The final result is the user experience who identify with the lighting product.
The hardest part of the project was finding the way to produce the new material made from lavender seeds.
I made different experiments to create a strong fragrance and to be durable in time.
I made different experiments to create a strong fragrance and to be durable in time.
I decided to submit my product to A Design Award competition, because I believe that it's a great opportunity for me as a young designer to participate at many design competitions, to promote my work and to be seen.
I keep saying to myself that the experiment matter most. If you want a good design in the end, you need to focus on the process.
After one year of preservation, the lavender lamp still have fragrance. That means that ingredients are important and the natural resources are powerful.
Design Legend Interview

To fail. When you experiment you will find the right answer.
The purpose.
A really good design is dedicated to people. A really great design stands out. I evaluate a good design in terms of the 3 needs: simple, functional, aesthetic.
I evaluate a good design in 3 terms: simple, functional, aesthetic. Everyone should invest in a good design because that design can have a great impact of changing things worldwide.
I never thought until now, but probably I would love to create a product for my personal needs. I think every designer should make in the entire career, at least one product starting from one or two personal problems/necessities. Because probably will be hard to create something for us too. We are always seeking for what people want, but if for them is never enough and we always try to perfect the imperfect, how will be the imperfect, perfect for us? I can't answer what I would design, but at least will have a minimal touch.
My dream design project is to create a nature reserve, a sanctuary for animals who were abused.
To have faith.
Karim Rashid is on top of the list but I studied and found inspiration from Dieter Rams, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and other great design legends.
I appreciate the aesthetic shape and the details of the simplicity. The product looks clean and easy to use. Dieter Rams said that: simplicity is the key to excellence. I must agree.
Not sure if the greatest, cause I'm young, but for sure had it's way and impact for the public. The project - Delta Pendant Lamp, won 2 prizez and was appreciated by the romanian design industry and had compliments from Lisa Rosso, the chief-editor of Icon Design.
Everyday's learning. The discipline and nature.
I thought about it, I had other jobs before, but nothing suited me better than my job as a designer.
Design is a lifestyle. For me, design is a cure.
My family and my friends.
Discipline. The value of hard work.
I think money. The general problem for artists, designers, are money issues. If you don't have financial support it is much harder for anybody to develop the ideas.
Simple and clean. Trust your instincts.
Right now I'm working on my online store. I will focus on the business, and then I will start making new projects.
To change the world.
To see more of my products.
The story behind every product creates a better society / movement.
I currently develop one new brand clothing idea based on the society problems.
The project which includes natural resources and have social impact.
The materials used. The unique aesthetic shapes. Safe design ideas.
One important fact could be the robotic area, artificial intelligence, or green innovations.
As needed.
Design thinking. Find problems.
Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can and change the world.
Both generate each other.
Technology make the life of the designer easier. Using technology nowadays it's easier to finish a prototype, product.
Depends on the project. Sketching, 3D Modelling, digital drawing, also collaborations with different industries.
To stand out.
Why. How. For Fragrance Lamp, people asked about the fragrance - How - the lighting object kept the essence and the perfume so strong.
Motivates me.
Yes I believe that if it's a match, two or more people can work together and co-create.
My university craft teacher who mentored me and learned me how to grow ideas.
Design and Personal Development books.
With discipline. As a student I experienced a lot.
I think I always had a crush on Tom Hardy because of his acting talent compared to his life story.
I'm not famous but I think I am popular in the romanian design field. People recognize my work, which is a great feeling.
Red. Home. Italian pasta. Spring. Armchair.
A funny moment, always, is to watch me talking in public.
A great day starts with one cup of coffee. A perfect day is finished with new ideas. Even if it's hard at the beginning of the career, I focus on people's need and try to create the unexpected products.
No, but was obvious that I'm a child who prefer arts instead of math.
I prefer to enjoy the present, I'll let the future getting ready. In any way, the design area will grow and people will be more educated about it.
I'm an young romanian designer, on my beginning career and I'd love if you could give me a chance to put my contributions for changing the design world.
Designer Interview
5 May 2020
I like to say that my design is a minimalist way answer for the world's problems. I become an designer because I consider that this profession will fulfill my desire to create good products for people need. In our daily routine we interact with objects that improve our life or confuse it. That's why less means more. And less means functional simplicity.
I am a young designer on my begining career and I like to gain my experiences from collaborations and experiments. I have a personal brand named GGDesign, but I'm working as a freelancer and I do wanna have my personal studio in the near future. I create sustainable concepts, and lately I'm experimenting with new materials to find better green solutions.
Design represents to me a better and constructive world who pleads for more sustainable times. Change the purpose, mix the feelings, find the right answers for a better experience with the product.
Lighting Design Objects with purpose; Functional design with less touch; Environmental experiments; Social Design Impacts; Graphic Design Story contexts; Creating brand new ideas; Finding natural problems and propose insights; Sustainable products or conceptual ideas for a cause;
My most favorite design is Fragrance Lamp serie, because it has the essential ingredient, one of my favorite and liked by many people because of his potential in aromatherapy and medicine. I used the lavender flower seeds because I think it is a good ally to have in your house. It helps you in different ways. Also it is a ecological way for lighting and has perfume.
The first thing I design for a company was a proposal concept called: Delta Pendant Lamp, with who I won the Delta Craft competition. The lighting object was inspired by the traditional life of the craftsmen who live in the Danube areas. It's made entirely from adobe material(earth land).
I like to work with natural materials.
When I'm alone in the studio. I can focus and create.
Environmental aspects
I feel good, liberated, creative, I feel I can bring a change through my design.
The best emotions in the worldwide. Obvious is a great feeling for every designer to know that the product designed is finished and can be produced.
Good insight, simple vision and great functions. Less means more, that's why is so complicated to deliver something successful 100%. But you keep trying to improve it until you feel that it's enough.
Green classification and how functional it is, if indeed it is realized for the user experience or just for another beautiful object However, there is also bad design that is good in its category (If that was the intention).
I would say that 90%, it's our duty to deliver good environmental product design. We need to change the perspective of the consumers, we need to educate them for for both interests: their live and the environmental status.
The future of the design is almost here. The technological products will raise the expectation of the people from the planet. However we can draw the line and find also respect for the environment and planet. We can make green products based on the technology nowadays.
My last exhibition was at SENSORIA, The exhibition - Design Days tour, in 2 city locations, 2019. My next exhibition will be at Romanian Design Week, in May, 2020.
My inspiration many times comes from nature. Also from society problems, from my daily routine and from the people who I work with. For exemple, it is interesting how people react in different situations or places. Body language is very important for the empathy design process.
I use Design thinking methodology for every project. I think this is the best way for me to analize each route and find the best solutions for my concept and for my target. Not sure how to describe the style but it is a minimalist daily routine process.
For now I live in Romania. Yes, I think my design is affected by the curent location. Not everybody here understand what the product design really means and what this profession does to help the people. That makes a product good?
Usually I work with project or collaborations. Right now, I'm having freelance graphic design works.
You will figure out who is a good designer for your company only after you have a debate solution with them. Every designer is good for a company and less good for another one. I think it's about the knowledge, accurate work, simplicity in process and understanding the right purpose to create not an expected delivery but a very good unexpected proposal.
Experiments matter most. I work with a timeline stable by me, an estimated time, the idea paths & choosing the right final idea for development. After that, I like to work on the UX process to fulfill better the consumer expectation
google assistant; drawing tablet; workspace desk; notebook; pencil; and also my favorite mug coffee
Wake up on music, drinking my favorite coffee with extra milk, enjoying the presents of my lovely birds, making breakfast, prepare for work, going to office, resolving the tasks and check for the deadlines, going to the studio or working from home. But many times, a day in my life can't be described, sometimes I feel that 24 h are not enough to make all the thing you want.
I am a young designer, but I think I can answer that. Best advice is that you never need to give up on your dreams. Work not hard but smart. Be a good designer and change the world
Weather change the style.
Honesty in design.
Design Thinking Process.
I think we should know more than our job needs. We need to learn everyday something new. I'm working also as a graphic designer, digital designer, illustrator. And I like to read specialty books. I like to go on my friends exhibitions, to talk with the artists. Every connection matter. Every context can create another one.Every day creates you.
With patience and a timeline process.
Depends on the object and concept. Last project was developed in 4/5 months.
Where do your ideas come from?
Being on my own and propose a product who won 3 prizes. Best experience for young designers.
BotsandUs; RDW, DeltaCraft;
Unconventional playground and brainstorming ideas found in debate with other artists or designers.
I believe that my future will bring me more closely to what I need: to live from my product design objects and to grow up in the industry.
I develop my designs myself but I'm looking forward to find a team for the next projects.
I actually have another project under construction with a storyteller. It's about the social impact of a graphic design project who will make people think about themselves and who they are.
Via email, phone, social media. My website is under construction.
Think about every detailed conflict or element from your life and change the world by choosing good and different design.
