6 May 2020 · Nine Court Mansion Residential Landscape

The inspiration getting from the spatial structure of China Palace, create axis layout and relationship of three-pattern. The traditional homing etiquettes and traditional China element are expressed contemporarily.

This project is intended to improve the life quality of residents at the same, use the modern design to introduce and express elements of China traditional culture, in order to improve people’s recognition and degree of attention on China traditional culture.

We would invite new colleagues to see the project regularly and give careful analyses of the pros and cons of the project.

It is around 10 days.

I decided to pursuit this inspiration due to China needs to regain attention to its own culture at this stage.

Another company produces it.

The enthusiasm to Oriental culture and Chinese traditional landscape design.

They are my colleagues who worked with me in the same company.

Sunac real estate, Chongqing/China.

The design difficulties this time lie in both meeting peoples' aesthetic needs and usage needs in life referring to how to express the traditional culture. By reference to the spatial layout method from the Imperial Palace, we constructed nine spaces and grouped them into three steps of the home-returning ceremony.

The name of the project, the Nine-Court Mansion, originated from the practice in China that there are nine rooms at most in a house no matter how large it is.

AutoCAD, SketchUp & Lumion

This project is intended to improve the life quality of residents at the same, use the modern design to introduce and express elements of China traditional culture, in order to improve people’s recognition and degree of attention on China traditional culture.

We have technical group in our company who collaborate with this project.

Chinese style and artistic conception are brought into the design, use the ways to carving instead of printing to grasp Chinese "Charm”, change complexity to the simple, adjust in material and simplify in shape elements like Chinese traditional pitched roof and dragon scales, meanwhile shall focus on the design essentials in function.

In order to more fully get knowledge of background of project, we conduct a questionnaire survey on potential customer group and local residents, get some missions and site memory of this project , and then guide the latter design. Combining the current status of site, we make a deep research on the spatial structure of Chinese traditional residence and look up lots of books. Finally we get inspiration from the spatial structure of China's Forbidden City, create the axis layout, and create relationship of three-pattern, Make contemporary expression on traditional homing etiquette.

Change complexity to the simple, adjust in material and simplify in shape elements like Chinese traditional pitched roof and dragon scales, meanwhile shall focus on the design essentials in function.

We realize this is a high quality project and we hope more people could be interested in Modern Chinese landscape after they visit this project.

This project furthers my understanding of classic Chinese landscape and through communication with our clients, colleagues and locals, my understanding of design improves a lot.

I hope everyone present could pay more attention to oriental landscape design and provide us with your suggestions. We will keep committing to do our next project better.

Design Legend Interview

6 May 2020

I graduated from Guilin University of Technology, majoring in environmental design. After graduation, I worked as a landscape designer first in a real estate company and afterwards in a design company. During my 17-year career I participated in many good projects.

Privately, I am very quiet. I like to observe the details of our everyday life and find out the rules and problems of our living environment, which enables me to become a capable designer and to find solutions to these problems.

I choose to become a designer.

I have participated in many commercial, municipal and residential landscape design projects. Currently, I mainly work on residential landscape design projects.

The essence of design should focus on people so we need to spent a great deal of time observing and studying their lives.

Your observation of life, understanding of a project and approaches to address issues encountered in the project are essential for you to become a good designer.

Actually resolves the essential problems through our design, inspirational and have certain aesthetic values.

Good design is able to improve people’s quality of life and resolve many problems they encounter in life. If I were an investor, I would think it is worthwhile to invest in a design proposal that can actually address people’s needs.

I hope I could have the opportunity to devote to landscape projects that preserve our traditional culture and improve the sustainable development of cities and work with environmentalists and preservationist to improve our living environment.

BIOPHILIC urban design; I believe that staying close to nature could to a large extent improve people’s physical and mental health and the urban environment. If time allows I hope I could have the opportunity to work on this type of project.

Design should focus on the needs of people. We must find out ways to understand users’ actual needs. What kind of lifestyle do they prefer and what kind of environment they prefer to conduct social interactivity.

Landscape designer guru Zhu Yufan and architecture expert Wang Shu have been inspirational to me in terms of space layout and oriental landscape design.

The HOSHINOYA Luxury Hotels in Karuizawa is a hot spring resort in a valley, with its landscape designed by Hiroki Hasegawa based on Japan’s traditional culture.

Currently I feel satisfied with the design effects of Guobin No. 1 Central Mansion. It aims to create a unique and serene place among the bustling city.

Firstly, you have to be interested in design; and you should be a keen observer in life and lastly it’s your reflections on the problems you have detected.

I might become a concept artist because I once had deep interest in painting.

I think design refers to the orderly arrangements of the elements of life. By taking apart our living environment into sperate parts and reorganizing them in a certain way, it aims for optimizing our living space and quality of life.

In fact, my family, colleagues and clients have given me great support and we are also willing to work together to produce exquisite landscape design.

Both my family and I are quiet people and it is my family driving my interest in our living environment and enable me to settle down and observe the details of our everyday life.

Experience in landscape design; landscape design requires a comprehensible skill set and to be a good designer you have to accumulate a lot of experience by dealing with many projects.

Designers need to produce sophisticated works that at the same time are also easy to understand so that even laymen can easily see the purpose and aim of a project.

The next project is to design a roof garden, which is very futuristic. I hope people would like it after it is completed.

I hope I could be inspirational to other designers and they would benefit and improve themselves by working with me.

More or less, people would have problems and difficulties in life. If designers could resolve these problems ingeniously and at a small cost, they would surely win people’s respect.

Many problems in our lives and with our living environment can be resolved through elaborate design. A good design could be inspirational to people like artworks. All of which play a positive role in our society, both physically and spiritually.

Currently I am working on a roof garden, which will be a very futuristic design. I feel very excited, although it is a great challenge to me.

Previously, we designed a pocket garden in Chongqing, China and its high quality attracted many people from surrounding areas; in addition, the design improved the problems of insufficient green space and poor wetland environment facing the city.

In the future, the landscape industry will develop towards the direction of producing sophisticated and elaborate designs. More and more design projects would focus on improvement and renovation of the existing environment to save cost and protect the environment.

Gradually trending toward pursuing high-quality design and focus on the fundamentals rather than having aesthetics as the benchmark of the field.

This would depend on the difficulties and scale of a project. Generally, It would at least take three months or even longer from six months to a year in case of a difficult project needing repeated study and authentication.

Firstly, I would analyze the target users of the project and its surrounding environment so that problems can be identified and solved.

The essence of design is to bring spiritual joy to people.

I have always held the idea that design is affected by social trends and need to adjust according to the evolution of people’s material and spiritual needs.

It is indispensable. Many design ideas have to be combined with technologies to address problems more efficiently and safely; sometimes, they even promote each other.

A lot of software are used, among which AutoCAD and Sketch Up are the most important design software.

All these are essential conditions needing to be considered during the early period to ensure the success of a project.

What is the design about? What problems it resolves and how they are resolved?

Imagine you were the designer who drafted this design, what would be your ideas behind it?

My colleague Zhou Yanhong is an excellent interior designer. We often work together on high-end and high-quality residential landscape design projects.

They are also my colleagues. We are a team and they inspire me a lot on many projects.

Less is More and Japan’s New Middle Class have a deep impact on my design career.

To be a keen observer of life and spend more time thinking about the ideas behind high-quality projects and communicating with designers in different fields.

I have always feel attracted to Peter Walker’s minimalist landscape style.

There would still be a long way to go. There are many outstanding landscape design companies and we need to keep going and commit to produce more good projects.

I don’t have any special preference for colors and brands. I just like to stay near a lake during autumn and tastes fruits freshly picked from trees.

After becoming a designer, I’ve improved a lot. But now I am also bald so a healthy lifestyle is very important.

It is my interest and I have a great liking for landscape design.

A that time, not at all. It’s not until college that I gradually developed a deep interest in landscape design.

In the future, human development may still exert impact on the environment and with the development going slower, it can eventually co-exist with the natural environment.

Any suggestions from any person seeing my project are welcomed and it would be very helpful for us to become better in the future.

Designer Interview

6 May 2020

I graduated from Guilin University of Technology, majoring in environmental design. After graduation, I worked as a landscape designer first in a real estate company and afterwards in a design company. During my 17-year career I participated in many good projects.

IN Lab is a landscape design firm specialized in small-sized high-end projects. With its quality services in landscape design, it aims to show the uniqueness and maximize the social values of every piece of land in order to improve people’s quality of life and well-being.

I think design refers to the orderly arrangements of the elements of life. By taking apart our living environment into sperate parts and reorganizing them in a certain way, it aims for optimizing our living space and quality of life.

I am attracted to residential landscape design, which brings people a better living environment.

The HOSHINOYA Luxury Hotels in Karuizawa is a hot spring resort in a valley, with its landscape design conducted by Hiroki Hasegawa based on Japan’s traditional culture.

Residential garden design.

Pervious concrete is extremely environmental-friendly, which is helpful for building sponge cities.

Sit on a coach watching outside.

I attach great importance to the problems design aims to address and seek solutions.

Feel very excited and look forward to the future of the project.

Feel more tranquil than excited and would give a sensible analysis of the gains and losses of the project and using the experience learned to guide the next project.

In my opinion, a successful project can address the function and artistic values of the project at the same time.

Whether it actually resolves the problems existing in the project?

Designers need to address the practical issues surrounding people’s living environment, be inspirational to people and play a positive role in the society on the spiritual level.

Design is an interdisciplinary major. Nowadays, with various fields of study being interconnected, the design field would keep improving and making progress.

I am a landscape designer so it’s impossible for me to hold my own exhibitions, but I hope more people could see my works.

The most important thing is to be a keen observer. Your continual observation of life and reflections make you aware of the problems in life and would inspire you to find solutions.

As a landscape designer, I’ve developed a liking for the minimalist style. Observation has always been my source of inspiration. Through observation, problems can be found and eventually resolved.

I live in China and traditional Chinese culture has a big impact on my design so I focus more on building oriental landscape. That’s why I have a lot to do in my understanding of the western style.

I would lead my colleagues to conduct careful pre-stage analyses and through brainstorming, collect as many ideas as possible and find the most proper solutions thereof.

This is a process requiring constant cooperation. Companies and their designers need to understand each other and find common grounds to ensure everything go smoothly.

Careful pre-stage analyses and brainstorming with colleagues to find solutions working best and then continue to make improvement according to the specific situations of a project.

Garden, kitchen bar table, bedside lamp, bedroom and balcony.

Wake up by my alarm clock and my passion for work; go to work and stick to the plan made yesterday; do a lot of reading at night; realize the need to do more exercises until it’s time to sleep.

Keep working out and a keen observation and spent more time thinking about the ideas behind outstanding projects.

Designers have greater passion for life and keener ability to find beauty in life. But most of the time, they sit behind a desk, so they need to go outside and do exercises to stay healthy and keep a sharp mind.

Use the simplest way to address the fundamental issues of a project.

Observation and analytical skills and logical thinking.

AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe software.

Focusing on the fundamental issues and spent the most time finding solutions working best. In addition, we have standardized many operations, which can improve efficiency significantly.

It depends on the difficulty of a project. Generally, it takes three months to a year.

The reasons behind your design.

The design of Chongqi No.1 Central Mansion gave me a deeper understanding of the exquisite effects designers pursue and the ideas behind them.

Residential, commercial and tourism developers.

I prefer to do landscape design of residential areas as I have always hoped to develop a design system to improve people’s living environment within a limited space.

I would continue to devote to working on sophisticated and high-quality landscape design projects. My next project is a hanging garden project, which is a challenge I’m very looking forward to.

We work together as a team to produce more high-quality projects.

Currently I am working on a hanging garden project, which is very high-end and futuristic. I hope we could achieve a satisfactory result.

I would love to contacted through my email zhangguowei@y-anstudio.com.

Any suggestions would be welcomed and we are committed to do our next project better.
