Regarding Heart By Tree Villa House

Heart by Tree is a villa house located in Gunung Pulai, Malaysia. The villa is formed by four building blocks arranged around a central courtyard. Lawn and willow plants cover the bedroom roofs and improve heat insulation. Two tall ancestral trees were transplanted onto the site as a token of gratitude to the owner. Zinc and fiber form the chassis of the lawn roof, suited to the hot climate. Ceramic tiles, granite and glass discarded by factories were reused in the decoration. The layout follows the traditional courtyard house concept.

About Summer Chang Hin Cheong

I am Summer Chang, a designer who bravely faces the change of life. My mission is to guide the owners correctly, to make them feel the importance of coexistence of life and design, and my vision is to improve the construction skill level in Malaysia. I have served many owners who have been deceived and no longer trust designers, and I think that even under non-profit circumstances, we must give correct consultation to owners. The eye is the lens that allows the brain to store good memories, so a good mood can affect our lives.

Design Details

Unique Properties
The villa is formed by four blocks of building, surrounding a courtyard. The designer uses lawn or meadow, and willow plant as the roof for the bedrooms, which allows better heat insulation. Apart from these two plant types, the designer also transplanted two iconic tall ancestral trees that signifies and serves as a token of gratitude to the owner’s great contribution to the society.
Inspiration
The villa is built for summer weather throughout the year, situated in the humidity of a tropical forest. And hence, the designer is hopeful that the use of plants and ponds will bring in a harmonious blend of temperature, in and around the villa, to substantiate the serenity amidst the hustle and bustle. The layout and design of the villa also provides protection against the wildlife intrusion into the compound. The inception of the villa concept and its design, begins from the courtyard house concept, a unique Chinese architecture characteristic dated back two thousand years ago.
Research
We hope to build a leisure villa house that is unique in Malaysia.
Challenge
The villa was built on a hill and it rained heavily during the construction, it took three tries for the 5-tonne old tree to be successfully transplanted.
Realization and Technology
We complete the Heart by Tree to minimize construction costs and protect the environment. Due to the hot climate in Malaysia, we use zinc and fiber as the chassis of the lawn roof. In the decoration section, we look for some materials that have been abandoned by the factory, such as ceramic tiles, granite and glass.
Operation and Interaction
From design to build.
Project Duration and Location
The project started in October 2019 in Gunung Pulai and will finish in July 2020.
