The international grand jury of the 2019 - 2020 A' Design Award & Competition recognizes Hui Chi Ho Howard for event and happening design

The recognition forms part of the 2019 - 2020 A' Design Award & Competition and was decided through blind peer review by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members, who evaluated anonymized entries against predetermined criteria.

Regarding Starhub TVB Awards TV Show
Starhub TVB Awards is a stage design created for an awards show held at the Sand Theatre of Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The set marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the event and hosts more than 30 television artists and singers. The design takes its form from the supertree structures of Gardens by the Bay. LED wall displays are arranged in several compositions. Five sets of vertical LED displays are suspended by cyberhoist systems, so the screens move up and down to match the video graphics and the scenes of the show.
About Hui Chi Ho Howard
HOWS was founded in 2001 by Howard Hui. After graduating from The Hong Kong Polytechnic of Art & Design in 1996, he started his career at Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) as stage designer. Starting with stage design as the mainstream business at its early age. It had designed stages for popular artists in Hong Kong including GiGi Leung, Jade Kwan, Hanjin, Lam Fung, Tai Chi, Dave Wang, Shirley Kwan, William Chan, Li Yi Feng.....HOWS has extended the business to Spatial and Event design. We would like to design more stage with different visual impact for the audience. Combine with multimedia / innovative technology & exhilarating spectacle.

- Unique Properties
- Starhub TVB Awards 25th anniversary, held at singapore marina bay sands – sand theatre. We’re invite to do the stage design for this event. More than 30 tvb artist and different singer goes onstage.
- Inspiration
- Gardens by the bay brings to mind these so-called supertrees
- Research
- Any mention of gardens by the bay brings to mind these so-called supertrees – avatar-like, manmade structures fashioned from concrete and steel frames. Their branches, angled to the sky as if in a cry to the gods, shelter vertical gardens comprising over 200 species of plants. So we make use of this form to design for the show.
- Challenge
- There are no hanging point in front of the stage area. When we're going to create a supertrees like structure as decoration. We need to separate these structure into several pieces during set up period. Tailor made 8 load suspending devices from venue rooftop, hanging it one by one to create the overall sculpture.
- Realization and Technology
- The production team is from singapore. We make use of cyberhoist (cybermotion) to let the led wall move up & down. To match with different scenery during the show.
- Operation and Interaction
- The nominations for Starhub TVB Awards are jointly determined by Starhub and TVB for TVB programmes shown on VV Drama, E City, TVBJ and TVB first on demand throughout the designated year. The final results are decided by online voting (70%) and a panel of professional judges.
