Design Details

Unique Properties
Threepointone Studio is a corporate identity system developed for a multidisciplinary design practice. Grounded in the rule of thirds, the identity is constructed from fundamental visual elements, including bespoke typography, geometric forms, and a restrained monochrome palette. By using fundamental design elements to articulate complex compositional principles, the system demonstrates clarity, precision, and usability while ensuring consistent expression across digital, print, and spatial applications.
Inspiration
The project was inspired by the concept of pi as a universal representation of continuity, balance, and precision. This reference informed a foundational approach to design that prioritizes fundamental visual elements such as point, line, and surface. A restrained palette of black, white, and grey was selected to reinforce clarity and neutrality. Together, these decisions express the studio’s core values of harmony, empathy, and creativity through a structured and adaptable visual system.
Research
Type of Research: Qualitative and marketing research. Research Objectives: To understand competitors and differentiation. Methodology: Competitor and audience analysis. Data Collection and Research Tools Used: Online research. Participants or Experiments: Internal evaluation. Results, Insights and Impacts: Identity gaps were identified. Effect of the Research in Real-Life Phenomena such as Business, Society and Design Itself: The outcome supports clearer brand positioning.
Challenge
The primary challenge was translating abstract design principles into a clear and functional identity without relying on decorative trends. Balancing conceptual depth with practical usability required continuous refinement to ensure the system remained accessible to diverse audiences. Limited reliance on color and stylistic devices increased the need for precision in typography, composition, and structure throughout the design process.
Realization and Technology
The identity was developed through iterative visual exploration grounded in fundamental graphic design principles. Studies of typographic proportion, geometric structure, spatial hierarchy, and contrast relationships informed the system. These principles were tested and refined across digital and print applications to ensure clarity, consistency, usability, and long-term adaptability of the corporate identity.
Operation and Interaction
The identity uses fundamental design elements to clearly communicate the brand story and values. By avoiding reliance on color, the design remains accessible and acceptable to a wide range of age groups and audiences. This approach emphasizes purpose and meaning over decoration, allowing the brand to communicate consistently across digital and printed contexts while maintaining clarity and recognition.
Project Duration and Location
The project was initiated in December 2023 in Mountain View, California, and completed in March 2024 over a four-month development period. The work encompassed concept development, visual system exploration, and refinement of the corporate identity across digital and printed applications.
Specifications
The project consists of a corporate visual identity system designed for both digital and print applications. Digital assets were developed as scalable vector files to ensure resolution-independent performance across platforms. Printed corporate identity materials were designed to accommodate standard production formats, maintaining visual consistency through defined typographic scales, color specifications, and layout structures.
