Regarding Inner Vastness Residence
Inner Vastness is a residential interior design for a 112.3 square meter home in Taiwan. The layout includes two bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, an indoor garden and two bathrooms. An open plan forms the public area, while a curved plan shapes the indoor garden, which echoes the light from the windows. A glass screen separates the garden from the public area. Ventilation and natural light are emphasized, and an exhaust system guides air to all corners. Patio lights supplement the entrance area. Materials include iron, glass and tile.
About Noverta Chou
"Return design to humanism and create a better space experience" Three major design axes: healthy light, clean air, and just the right humidity. Solve the problems that may occur after long-term residence in advance, combine "health" and "aesthetics", and return the design to the essence of life. "empathy" From the early study of light environment to the airflow plan, humidity control, and design in recent years, empathy is the driving force that supports us all the way forward. "If I live here, what else can I do?" Empathy makes our design closer to life; intuitive space planning also makes the environment more integrated with users.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- In the open plan space, in addition to the spaciousness and practicality, the designer emphasizes ventilation and lighting. The designer carefully evaluates the brightness of light in the space and brings light and greenery into the room through the indoor garden. Secondly, the designer eliminated the unidirectional convective wind direction of the long space through the exhaust system and direct the natural wind to all corners of the space. At the same time, the designer visualizes the flow of the interior through curved lines.
- Inspiration
- Create a space for a dialogue with the occupants! Between the light, plants, coffee, and books, the bright natural lighting and breeze construct every moment of freedom in the home. The designer uses space design to create the best habitat for the soul. A perfect balance of life is no need to deliberately search for, people can close their eyes and feel the resonance between space and themselves, the "inner vastness" hidden in people's hearts.
- Research
- The space is customized for the client in terms of aesthetics, functionality, and convenience of living. The height of the gas stove and countertop, the configuration of the dining room seating and tatami area, and the selection of the bathtub are all customized for the client. These furnishings look good and are ergonomic, making life more pleasant. It is worth mentioning that the designer emphasizes ventilation and lighting. In areas where natural light is relatively insufficient, such as the entrance area, patio lights are installed to supplement the lighting.
- Challenge
- The site is humid and therefore requires a special base paint and a ventilation system to maintain the best balance of humidity and dryness. The next thing is to overcome the crosses in the ceilings of the public area. Considering the height of the client and not wanting to reduce the height of the space to decorate the beams, the designer supplements the curved trim with elegant colors to echo the walls and furnishings to form a harmonious and extended aesthetic while eliminating the abruptness and oppressiveness of the cross beams.
- Realization and Technology
- Iron, glass, tile, hand paint, base paint, curve design, hand paint, air purification system.
- Operation and Interaction
- Unlike the traditional living room layout, the project is divided by the living style of the client. Since the client does not spend much time watching TV, the initial planning of the living room did not make TV the core of the living room. Considering the client's working habits and resting needs, the designer places the sofa in front of the elaborate glass indoor garden. Under the customized planning, the public area has more living applications and the original windows can form another complete sitting area with the indoor garden.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project finished in February 2022 in Taiwan.
- Specifications
- The project is 112.3 square meters with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, an indoor garden, and 2 bathrooms. The designer takes an open plan to create a public area and a curved plan to create an indoor garden in the living room that echoes the light from the windows. The glass screen delineates the private garden from the public area, allowing the users to enjoy exclusive time in each area. Whether gardening, flower arranging, viewing, sunbathing, reading, or dining, the spacious public area is in a completely different way with the clever configuration of the zones.
