Design Details

Unique Properties
Conceptual Calendar for French premium glass manufacture Lalique. Connecting the world of unique handmade glass production by a premium manufacturer and the world that is entirely handmade from paper. To create an amazing imaginary space in which the luxurious world of glass and visual art is combined. Together with perfect printing technology, large format, special effects and surface treatments, they form a breath-taking story that will entertain you all year long.Great attention was paid to every detail and also on extremely precise processing and the top-quality print result.
Inspiration
Inspiration for our calendar comes from limitless creativity of Lalique artists. Through the whole production, each piece is made entirely by hand by many excellent workers.
Research
Everything around the glass is made entirely of paper, so it was necessary to find the right type of paper. We often had to bend it, break it and twist and we also needed a variety of paper colours. We also glued several of them on top of each other to create volume. It took a lot of time to try and test before we found the right type of paper for our work. Choosing the right glue was equally important. First, the blueprint for each topic had to be in the form of a sketch on paper and then converted into a flat form on a computer and divided into individual parts that were cut by laser. Then the individual parts had to be glued together to create the whole object.
Challenge
Each unique glass piece has a different format and form. We designed twelve paper worlds in which we could incorporate glass pieces in an original artistic way. We had to design, project, cut and glue together hundreds of paper pieces for all of the twelve visuals.
Realization and Technology
Calendar is made entirely by hand and only from paper.
Operation and Interaction
Large size wall calendar. One of the most notable calendar benefits that everyone greatly appreciates is its haptic function, thanks to additional surface technologies, such as extensive 3D embossing or UV varnishing. It's very amusing that you can run your hand over the leaves and feel every part of it. An essential part of the calendar is a separately attached image catalogue called Inside Stories, which describes each sheet of the calendar and the technologies used. It is an important part of the project to understand its origins and also the production of the calendar.
Project Duration and Location
The project started in September 2021 in Wingen-Sur-Moder France, manufactured in Ostrava and finished in December 2022 in Opava Czech Republic.
Specifications
Size 680 x 480 mm. Ofset printing on paper 250 g, CMYK + 9 Pantone colours. Additional technologies used for finishing are Foilstar, UV varnish, embossing, hot foil emboss.
Keywords
Lalique, calendar, paper, paper art, printing, conceptual work, glass, glasswork, photography, paper interiors
