The international grand jury of the 2021 - 2022 A' Design Award & Competition recognizes Konstantinos Gkagkos for interior space and exhibition design

The recognition forms part of the 2021 - 2022 A' Design Award & Competition and was determined through blind peer review by an international grand jury panel of established academics, design professionals and press members, who evaluated anonymized entries against predetermined criteria.

Regarding Cavaliere Restaurant
Cavaliere is an Italian restaurant located in Nea Smyrni, Athens, Greece. The space covers 200 square meters and is divided into an entrance and bar area, a seating and table area, and an open kitchen. Rustic elements were avoided in favor of multilevel decoration with golden metallic details, green marble, velvet fabrics and art deco features. Gold wood-fired pizza ovens recall traditional Italian food. Different light sources emphasize the architectural details. The seating area can adapt to the weather and open fully.
About Konstantinos Gkagkos
Costas Gagos was born in Larissa in 1973 and studied Interior Design. In 1997 he founded the company Gagos Architecture & Design in Larissa, while in 2017 he opened its first branch office in Athens. The company is active both in the field of architecture and in the field of renovation, decoration and construction of small and large scale projects. Today, 26 years later, Gagos Architecture & Design led by Costas Gagos, consisting of a large team of architects, decorators, engineers of all specialties, designers and foremen, has to show a large number of projects, both in Greece and in abroad.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- As a designer decided not use details of rustic, outdated and self-evident traditional elements and moved in a direction of high aesthetics and finesse given through the multidimensional decoration, utilizing a wide range of materials which finally consider to have found their ideal place in space.
- Inspiration
- Drawing inspiration from the Italian tradition and without rustic or outdated elements we delivered a space with high aesthetics and finesse. The seating area being able to adapt to the weather can fully function as an open space for the clients to enjoy sunny days and fresh air. Α luxurius atmosphere has been created by a personalised approach. Thanks to the unique gold pizza wooden ovens the space gives to the customers the soothing feeling of the traditional Italian food.
- Research
- The design team focused on creating a modern and innovative trend of interior decoration, as we tried to introduce nature and the color green in everyday life, offering feelings of relaxation, calm and friendliness to the viewer.
- Challenge
- The challenge in this project, was not to create something similar to what one is used to ecxept for under the title of 'Italian Restaurant' in terms of architecture and design. The aim was to create an area which it would rather provide something fresh and distinctive than usual. Deriving inspiration from the Italian culture the team delivered a project of high aesthetics.
- Realization and Technology
- The restaurant consists of three different parts: the entrance, bar area, the seating- table area and the open space kitchen. Working in multileveled decoration styles has been used a wide range of materials as golden metallic elements, green marble, velvet luxurius fabrics and several glam and art deco details. Also, it has been used different sources of lighting to emphasize on the architectural details.

- The restaurant consists of three different parts: the entrance, bar area, the seating- table area and the open space kitchen.

- The designing process was completed in June 2021 and the construction began in July and completed in November of 2021.It is located in Nea Smyrni,Athens,Greece
