More About Deskable Desk
Deskable is a desk designed for single-person households. Deskable combines a desk and a dining table in one piece of furniture, which saves space in small homes. The top plate can be extended by pulling out the front drawer, so the surface becomes wide enough for meals. Storage space is placed under the extendable top. A carved line on the drawer marks the opening limit and removes the need for a separate stopper. The materials are oak plywood, coated ABS plastic, tempered glass and stainless steel.

I graduated from college in February 2022 and majored in industrial design. I mainly designed products and furniture, and I tried to solve the inconvenience in our daily lives by observing people and the surrounding environment.I think it is very valuable because solving daily discomfort can be sympathized with more people, and I also come out only when I sympathize with people around me. I'm sure our lives will be better because of these empathy and thoughts.

- Unique Properties
- A desk for a Single-Person Household Most single-person households eat their meals at a floor table or at a desk due to the narrow residential space. When two kinds of furniture are combined, it will have more than two functional purposes in only one piece of furniture. Moreover, it can also save space. Deskable is a desk that combines the desk and the table. Users can eat their meals after extending the top plate by pulling the drawer in front of the desk and using it as a table.
- Inspiration
- The majority of single-person are living in the small studio-type of residential space usually prioritize the efficient use and convenience of space. Since it is burdensome to set up a separate dining table, they often eat at a floor dining table or at a desk. Due to the prolonged COVID-19 outbreak, the rise of working from home, and the advent of the contactless era, most of the works can be done at the desk in the room, but the desk has become messier.
- Research
- The drawer might fall out if the user opens it excessively, so a stopper is required. Therefore, most drawers are equipped with rails to prevent the drawer from opening excessively. However, unlike other drawers, a problem may occur in the case of Deskable that when rails are installed on both sides of the drawer, there is a gap between the three drawers when the drawer is opened, which could cause utensils or even foods to fall between the gaps.
- Challenge
- There was some trial and error when designing the storage space.At first, it was intended to be acrylic, but it was bent because of its weight and later changed to tempered glass. The top of Deskable's drawer is carved with a line. It implicitly conveys the meaning that the line should not cross certain boundaries. Most importantly, it prevents the users from excessively opening the top of the drawer. Not only can accidents be prevented by simply adding the line, but it can be an efficient method as well since a separate stopper is no longer needed.
- Realization and Technology
- Eating at the desk has the same strong negative perspective as gobbling up a meal in a busy daily life. However, this can be seen as a new paradigm for the desks caused by the new trend in society. Deskable came from the combination of the words desk and table, is a dining table and desk where the user can eat their meals after opening a drawer and extending the desk top. The extended top plate reduces any unnecessary movements before and after the meals and can be used for other purposes as well.
