About Rotator Multifunctional Mobile Phone Holder
Rotator is a multifunctional mobile phone holder that combines wireless charging with a Bluetooth speaker. The holder offers two charging positions: flat charging, and charging at an angle of 60 degrees that holds the phone upright for watching videos. Two support bars act as controls, so the speaker volume and the phone screen brightness can be adjusted. The body is made of an aluminium case with an acrylic panel, shaped by CNC machining and metal 3D printing. Rotator measures 90 by 90 by 100 millimetres.
About Tianyang Yuan
Yiming Xu is an experienced designer and creative strategist based out of Shenyang City in China. She is studying in Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and studying for master's degree. Her portfolio intersects physical products, digital products, experience design, service design, and entrepreneurship with systems thinking and strategy. She enjoys studying Design Procedure and Methods, is trying to innovate and bring the audience a more diverse experience by observing people's daily behavior and habits. At the same time, she is good at graphic design, and has designed the emblem of the association and the emblem of the graduate student union for her college.

- Unique Properties
- ROTATOR is a wireless charger + Bluetooth speaker that can be rotated as a mobile phone holder. It has two charging methods: one is flat charging, and the other is rotated at an angle of 60 degrees with the ground as a mobile phone stand charging. Two support bars can also be used to adjust the volume of the speaker and the brightness of the phone's screen.
- Inspiration
- Existing phone holders are often lacking in functionality, only folding or charging. I want to maximize the functions of the mobile phone holder, and realize the combination of mobile phone holder, bluetooth speaker, charging, screen brightness and sound control , so as to provide maximum convenience for users.
- Research
- In a fast-paced modern society where people are often doing more than one thing at a time, it used to be difficult to place a phone on a holder to browse the Web or watch videos while it was charging. If the phone can be placed in a charging phone holder, it will undoubtedly save users a lot of time. Meanwhile, the Bluetooth speaker feature can reduce anxiety by allowing users to play music without worrying about battery drain.
- Challenge
- The challenge of the design is the innovative method of this phone charger.The technology and idea of this design was found. Still, it was not sure how to integrate each function of phone holder, charger and speaker. After a certain number of sketching and discussing about the project, finally, the proper selections which achieve the desired effect was found.
- Realization and Technology
- This design is shaped by CNC machining technology and metal 3D printing technology. It's mainly composed of luminum case, wireless quick charging coil, wireless charging chip and acrylic panel.
- Operation and Interaction
- Rotator has three functions: basic phone holder function, wireless charging function and Bluetooth speaker function.People can charge their phones while playing music or watching videos without worrying about losing power, and on top of that, they can adjust volume or brightness via two support sticks. ROTAOR can be adjusted to two angles to place the phone, one is 180° and the other is 60°. The 60° is suitable for people sitting down to watch a video, and the 180° is suitable for people conveniently placing the phone to charge. The design shows the application of ergonomics.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project started in January 2021 in LAFA Industrial Design Studio and finished in December 2021 in National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA.
