Golden Mile is an apartment interior design of 70 square meters located in Moscow, Russia. The interior is inspired by suprematism and its three stages of black, color and white. White is applied throughout as a background, creating a geometric volume across the whole space. Linear metal sculptures form the main elements, built from simple geometric planes joined into three-dimensional compositions. Materials include steel, marble, wood, MDF boards and faux suede. The steel construction, weighing 250 kilograms, is secured to the reinforced concrete floor above the ceiling.
About Maxim Kashin
The main concept of Maxim Kashin interiors is a symbiosis of the geometry of space and functionalism. In each of any interior, Maxim Kashin design team create such a geometry that maximally open the space in front of the person. Geometry of space begins with a planning solution, which should set the main dynamics of perception of the interior. The geometry of the walls always directs the person to the so-called main scene - the main space in the interior.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- White color, the color of endless space in the supremacist paintings, has evolved in the interior, creating a geometric volume of the whole space. It is self sufficient and also is a background for the interior s main elements geometric dominating sculptures. Thus, this interior is a white background for the linear geometric metal sculptures, consisting of the simple geometry planes, connecting in the three-dimensional monumental compositions.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by suprematism, I aimed to create the three dimensional installation, the interior, that is submerging one s into the world of endless white space, color and geometry. The main idea of suprematism (from Latin supremes highest) is based on the superiority of pure geometry and colour over the existing perception of forms and space.
- Research
- Suprematism has three steps of black, colour, and white. The first one – a square and basic shapes: circle, line, cross. Second – complicated suprematist compositions. The third one is white on white. The following works of Kazemir Malevich are clear examples of these steps – Black Square, Supremus№56, The White Cross. In the interior concept I wanted to connect these three stages of the 20th century’s popular Russian avant-garde art movement development by creating the three-dimensional installation, the interior, that is submerging one’s into the world of the endless white space, colour and geometry.
- Challenge
- The creative challenge was in installing the metallic construction in the ceiling of the apartment. Its weight is 250 kg. Firstly we created a model on the computer and then produced the steel sheets, the most challenging was to find a way how to install it securely into the ceiling. We succeeded by going really deep into the floor of an upstairs apartment and attaching it to a reinforced concrete floor.
- Realization and Technology
- Tools: 3D modelling before realization. Materials used during construction: steel, marble, wood, mdf boards, faux suede.
- Operation and Interaction
- This is an apartment interior design, that is created in a way providing an immersive experience for the owner and their guests. Its meaning is conceptual and emotional.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project was started in 2019 and finished in 2020. The location is Moscow, Russia
