About Castles In Ceramics Multifunctional Pot
Castles in Ceramics is a modular ceramic vase that also serves as tableware. The vase is formed of four parts that stack with stable and precise interlocking. When closed, the piece works as a decorative object for tables and sideboards, or as a pot for flowers. When opened, the four parts become separate bowls and containers for fruit or other food. Each part is shaped on a lathe or in a plaster mold and then hand painted in the traditional Castelli style. The vase is dishwasher safe and can be fired at different temperatures for food use.

The decorations are hand painted by the Maestri Ceramisti of the tradition of Castelli making each vase a masterpiece. The project received the patronage of territorial institution.
- Inspiration
- The great tradition of Ceramics of Castelli is our inspiration. An excellence with centuries of history, which could be found in the tableware of the most important ruling dynasties in Europe. In our project, ceramics are revitalized to give a contemporary dimension to this tradition: modularity, ease of use and timeless design, with unique hand-decorated pieces, one by one, which are brought directly to our tables from the museum.
- Research
- The culture and the productive identity of the territory form the basis of this project/process. Starting from the analysis of the artistic reality of the village of Castelli, we have created a complete strategy: from the design, to the production system, up to the sales strategies. The whole project is realized with the collaboration of the Maestri Ceramisti of Castelli and putting their artisan heritage at the center. The project is completed by a marketing plan that wants to connect small handicraft shops with the international public.
- Challenge
- The purpose of the project is to combine the Great Beauty of Italian art with the languages of contemporary living, to spreadthe centuries-old artisan tradition of the ceramics of Castelli in the international furniture sales channel. The project, in addition to the design aspects, is also enriched by well-structured business plan that aims to create work in the area and revitalize the local artisan tradition, in a territory that is experiencing a moment of difficulty also due to an earthquake that it recently hit the area creating enormous human and material damage.
- Realization and Technology
- Modeling can be done on a lathe or plaster mold. The final decoration is always done by hand by the Maestri Ceramisti and takes up traditional themes of the centuries-old tradition of Castelli. The kit can be made in different types of ceramic, in other words, fired at different temperatures to respond to different types of use. All these firing methods can be applied to the product and allow to obtain producst for different uses and particularly for food use.
- Operation and Interaction
- When closed it is a lovely vase that can decorate furniture or tables. When open, it becomes a tableware kit with a great aesthetic impact, in which each part that can be used as a container or bowl. Also dishwasher safe, each vase is made up of four parts that can be easily assembled by overlapping them with their stable and precise interlocking. Function, beauty, and ease of use: an object that combines a centuries-old artistic tradition to the needs of contemporary lifestyle.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project is based on the city of Castelli, an enchanting village located about 150 km from Rome, under the slopes of Mount Gran Sasso. A place of great artistic and scenic beauty, Castelli boasts a centuries-old tradition in the field of ceramics. The operational plan of the project is to develop the local production of the product and bring it to diffusion in the sales channels within 12 months.
