In 1866, Fujian Shipyard made a courageous act that introduced Western advanced technologies and culture, accelerating the process of China's modernization. Thus, it was known as the "living fossil" of Chinese modern history. Integrated with Chinese and Western cultures, Mawei's buildings then feature a mixed style that not only enjoys Chinese beam and tile, but also Western arch and column.
