About Black and White Narrative Residence

Black and White Narrative is the interior design of a stand-alone three-floor house in Taiwan. The layout holds a reception area, a tea-tasting room, a living room, a dining area, a kitchen, two bedrooms and four bathrooms. Spanish marble slim planks are arranged so that the veining extends visually and each plank is perceived differently. Spanish ceramic doors close the storage volumes. An open plan brings daylight and natural ventilation into the shared rooms. Large windows are fitted with electrically powered curtains.

Design Challenge
The major points of challenges faced by the design was to overcome the low ceiling height in concealing air-conditioning equipment, as well as maintaining the maximum ceiling height.
Research
As the site for the building was at the edge location, it means ample natural lighting, so the design team has given an open-plan layout so that the public domain of the interiors can have the most lighting and ventilation without artificial interventions. As the interior was planned to serve different functions of social and living needs, a concerted materiality strategy with wide range of colors, textures, and materials was deployed to articulate the minimalist and light modern living.
Inspiration
This project was creatively anchored on the elements favored by the client such as white-color scheme and masonry materials to manifest a minimalist and fashionable styling, while complementing the many Chinese-styled tea-tasting set and art collections owned by the client. Also, separately planned public spaces on the first and second levels would cater for different social needs of the male and female client.
Project Duration
The project was finished in June, 2019 in New Tainan City, Taiwan.
Operation Flow
The window dimension of the existing building was made especially large to accommodate the future usage convenience for the client, with the all the curtains electrically powered, and even the ones behind the sofa can be easily utilized which was impressive for the client.
