About Rippling Continuum Residence
Rippling Continuum is an interior design for a 208 square meter duplex residence. The 35-year-old home was renovated around soft lines and layered light. A spiral staircase clad in gray-white stone and white-coated metal forms the visual core, paired with a chandelier hung below a skylight. Curved ceilings integrate ducts and lighting, resolving the low ceiling heights. The open first floor links the living, dining, and kitchen areas, while four bedrooms and three bathrooms form the private zones. Flooring combines polished black marble and wood.

Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- The entrance reveals a spiral stone staircase ascending like mist, paired with a skylight-hung chandelier forming a vertical 'axis of light.' Prefabricated steel and solid wood retain curves while adding sculptural presence. In the living room, a curved ceiling integrates ducts and lighting, creating a dawn-like glow. Living and dining areas engage in a 'circular dialogue' through sofa placement and overlapping arcs. Concealed kitchen counters, staggered light strips, louvered doors, and custom rounded details ensure both aesthetic beauty and daily functionality.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The 208 m2 home was reconfigured to include four bedrooms, living and dining areas, a kitchen, and three bathrooms. The first floor features an open social zone, with the staircase as a visual and circulation anchor connecting living, dining, and kitchen spaces, creating a ripple effect of interaction. Upstairs, three bedrooms and a master suite with dressing room are arranged with staggered lighting and subtle floor-height shifts, defining functions while balancing openness and privacy throughout the home.

- Production Technology
- The social area flooring combines black polished marble and wood, symbolizing the fusion of rationality and sensibility. Private zones are finished with wood flooring to emphasize warmth and comfort. The spiral staircase is clad in gray-white stone and white-coated metal, achieving both sculptural elegance and structural safety. Walls employ off-white arched soft panels and plaster coatings, enhancing acoustics and creating tranquility. Furniture includes a stone-grain dining table, velvet chairs, and leather armchairs, extending a language that is steady yet soft.
- Design Challenge
- The old residence posed numerous challenges, including uneven flooring, outdated piping, and a fragmented layout. Most difficult were the low ceilings and entangled ductwork, resolved by curved ceilings and precise measurement. The spiral staircase also required careful negotiation between structural preservation and modern safety. As a result, construction spanned a year and a half, testing both time and design precision before ultimately reviving the home with a renewed look.
- Research
- The 35-year-old duplex was renovated around 'soft lines and the poetics of light,' transforming rigid geometry into flowing arcs and curves. The spiral stone staircase, paired with a vertical chandelier, becomes the emotional axis linking spaces and light. Living and dining areas feature overlapping arcs, black-and-white marble, and wooden floors, creating interactive tension between hardness and softness. The master suite continues curved motifs with louvered doors and staggered lighting, while rounded doors and curved desks enhance daily ergonomics and functional elegance.
- Inspiration
- The project renovates a 35-year-old duplex, purchased by the owner for its elegant curved spiral staircase. The design concept is centered on 'soft lines and the poetics of light,' transforming the staircase's graceful arcs into the soul of the space. Rigid geometry was discarded in favor of arcs and curves, with light and shadow layered to breathe new life into the old structure. The renovation was not merely cosmetic; it restructured circulation and repositioned the staircase as a visual core, reconstructing both spatial flow and luminosity so that memory and modernity coexist.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The owners had previously been skeptical of renovations, often finding aesthetics and practicality hard to reconcile. Following this transformation, they praised the ritualistic scene of light and staircase at the entrance, now the visual anchor of the home. The spiral staircase links vertical circulation, while the open layout creates a sense of spaciousness and ease of interaction. The social area efficiency was significantly improved, allowing every corner to support dialogue and exchange. The owner described it as the 'warmest and most rhythmic space they have ever lived in.'
