About Transformable Home Residential

Transformable Home is a residential interior design for an apartment of 73 square meters in Hong Kong. The home was planned for a family of four with two young children. Sliding partitions allow the two bedrooms to be joined into one open play area. When the sliding doors are closed, each bedroom becomes a separate room with a desk and a wardrobe. The layout was rearranged to work around the structural walls and columns that restrict plans in high-rise buildings. The flexible arrangement is intended to grow with the family.

Design Challenge
It is a typical high rise building in Hong Kong with the structural walls & columns restricting the spatial arrangements. The design has to work with limited alternations to partitions to achieve the maximum spatial effects as required.
Research
For Hong Kong being a city with high density of population, apartments are mainly arranged in high-rise buildings, resulted with internal layout restricted by the structural walls or columns of the architecture. With other regulations regarding room size against bay window size, a lot of the units are configured with small rooms which is out of proportion and not spatially efficient. The team is trying to rearrange the spaces to fit the needs of the client and also generate rooms with better efficiency and quality.
Inspiration
The Homeowners wanted to have a flexible place to accommodate the changing spatial needs of our little ones now and in the future. This brief inspired the team to create a transformable space where the little boy and the infant can share laughter together for the time being and enjoy private moments in their own kingdoms when they grow older.
Project Duration
The project started in July 2021 in Hong Kong and finished in December 2021.With
Operation Flow
When the sliding partitions are opened up, a great playground is there for them to have fun and share moments. As time goes by the siblings may wish for quiet and individual space for homework or zoom classes, as well as some me time like every one of us do. Simply close the sliding doors, the bedrooms which each completed with desks and wardrobes can be separated immediately.
