About Bu Er Residential House
Bu Er is a duplex residential interior located in Suzhou, China, covering 140 square meters. The design uses large simple surfaces instead of traditional decoration, so the shape of the space is formed by its functions. Differentiated materials are combined: smooth marble, cement with an irregular texture, large areas of wood veneer and a soft fabric sofa. The staircase is treated as the core element and uses the height of the space for added function. Flower art, concrete tones and abstract geometric art complete the interior.

Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- Based on the characteristics of the project, designers expanded its original tension with a simple large-surface approach, abandoned the traditional decoration, and filled it with necessary functions to naturally form the spatial modeling. In terms of modeling, they focused on the function of space and design according to the structure. The designers didn't emphasize unnecessary symmetry but used the concept of interior architecture to grasp the counterpoint relationship of space.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The project covers a total of 140 square meters.

- Production Technology
- Differentiated materials were used to match each other, so as to make the overall temperament of the space elegant and simple. The smooth texture of the marble background wall and the disordered texture of the cement were combined with the irregularly divided large area of wood veneer, which highlighted the fusion of the space aura in contrast with the soft fabric sofa.
- Design Challenge
- Due to its location in the center of the building, the structural pattern of the building is regular, but the modifiability of the building itself is limited.
- Research
- In addition, considering that the owner is accustomed to the duplex living environment, the staircase is an important reason for his choice of duplex residence and at the same time it is also the core node of the case. In view of the use experience of the space such as stair, passage, entryway, guest room, designers did not fill stair blindly into an entity, but combined the demand of dimensional function and took use of the higher bottom space through computation.
- Inspiration
- As the generation after 1990s, the owner is a person of both the rigorous logic of science and the romance of literary, so his demand for quality of life exceeds the survival level. Compared to cramming living space, the owner prefer to eliminate the sense of connection in each space, which breaks through the inherent imprison and the bondage of house type.
- Project Duration
- The project started in July 2019 in Suzhou and finished in December 2020 in Suzhou.
- Operation Flow
- Through the flower art cohesion, the use of concrete color and art of abstract geometric were adopted to make the whole environment more exquisite and harmonious.
