About Montecarmelo Townhouses Family Housing

Montecarmelo Townhouses is a family housing project in Madrid, Spain. The design responds to a neighbourhood of terraced houses with a repetitive and aligned appearance. The facades are covered with rough brick screens that shade the interiors from the sun. The idea comes from traditional sun protection systems, such as the esparto blinds found in the vernacular architecture of southern and eastern Spain. The bricks are larger than the standard size and are laid vertically. The built area is 586.4 square metres. The work was carried out between October 2017 and March 2019.

It is true that the urban planning that governs the Madrid neighbourhoods are authentic cages for creativity, alignment machines, factories of the same. In OOIIO Architecture we apply certain design techniques, such as Dalí s paranoid critical method, which allow us to escape these restrictions. Thinking with an inspiration idea.
